Biography

Born on Dragonstone during the greatest storm in living memory — hours after her father Aerys II died on the floor of his own throne room — Daenerys Stormborn began life as a fugitive. Smuggled to Essos and raised by her volatile brother Viserys, she spent her childhood being sold the dream of a homeland she had never seen. At thirteen she became a commodity in that dream, traded to Khal Drogo for an army. What should have destroyed her instead remade her: she learned Dothraki, won Drogo's genuine love, and ended Viserys's reign of petty terror with a single sentence — 'He was no dragon. Fire cannot kill a dragon.'

Drogo's death and the stillbirth of her son Rhaego stripped everything from her except conviction. Walking into his funeral pyre with three petrified dragon eggs, she emerged at dawn unburnt, with Drogon, Rhaegal, and Viserion hatched at her breast — the first dragons in the world in a hundred and fifty years. Her march through Slaver's Bay became the moral centerpiece of her legend: she sacked Astapor by turning the Unsullied on their masters, took Yunkai, and crucified 163 Great Masters of Meereen in answer for 163 slave children nailed to mileposts. Mhysa, the freedmen called her. Mother.

Westeros gave her none of Essos's adoration. She lost Viserion to the Night King, Rhaegal to Euron's scorpions, Jorah to the dead, and Missandei to Cersei's headsman — each loss sanding away her restraint. With King's Landing surrendered and the bells ringing, something nineteen years in the making finally broke: she burned the city street by street with Drogon, killing tens of thousands. Days later, promising Jon Snow they would build the new world together, she died in his arms with his dagger in her heart. Drogon melted the Iron Throne rather than the man who killed her, and carried her body east into legend.
