Biography
Joffrey was the lie at the center of the realm: presented to the world as Robert Baratheon's heir, he was in truth the firstborn of Cersei and Jaime Lannister's incest — the secret that killed Jon Arryn, then Robert, then Ned Stark. Crowned at thirteen, he revealed within one episode of his reign exactly what absolute power does to a cruel child: against every counsel, he ordered Ned Stark beheaded before the screaming crowd at the Sept of Baelor, single-handedly transforming a settled political crisis into a continental war.
His reign was a catalogue of casual sadism — Sansa beaten by his Kingsguard and forced to view her father's head, crossbow executions in the throne room, the massacre of Robert's bastards — performed by a king who fled his own city's defense at the Blackwater. The realm's deliverance came dressed as a celebration. At his wedding to Margaery Tyrell, Joffrey gulped wine laced with the Strangler, smuggled in the stones of Sansa's necklace by Olenna Tyrell and Littlefinger, and died choking in his mother's arms while pointing at the uncle he'd spent the feast humiliating. His death launched Tyrion's trial, Tywin's fall, and Sansa's escape — meaning the Boy King's last act, like his first, set the realm on fire.
